News, Travel, Sitcoms, Movies, Lifestyle, Cartoons, Opinion, Apologetics, Education, Sports and more…
It’s $14.95/month, no matter whether we have 20 channels or 200. But we’re not asking for that now. Instead, we’re asking you to come aboard as a founding member of the AFN. Please check out the offers below and help us make safe and affordable television a reality.
*$14.95 is the one month rate. Once we launch it’s actually only $11.05 if you pre-subscribe for 18 months and $13.50 after that as noted in our video.
Catch the Vision
Are you tired of paying liberal Hollywood executives to load up your TV and brainwash you kids with junk?
Are you okay with violence and sex being streamed into your living room and onto your child’s cellphone 24 hours a day?
Are you sick that your subscriptions to Netflix funded a series called 13 Reasons Why? A show that romanticizes suicide. It has already taken the life of at least one teen and may have inspired others to attempt suicide. And now Netflix has just released a new season.
Introducing the American Family Network!
We have been busy building a family friendly, moral network that will eventually host 200 independent channels, just like Cable TV or Satellite. BUT with trustworthy News, independent opinions, family friendly sitcoms, awards shows, history shows, cooking shows, travel, comedy, apologetics etc. We’ve already signed on many of the organizations you know and love to partner with us and host entire channels as well as new entertainment channels (see “About us” in bottom panel), but to make this happen, we need your help.
Do you want to join us to fight Big Media and Big Entertainment?
The technology is all ready to go; all we need to finish up is the user interface (UI/UX) and then we can launch. There is no risk to you because until we have the full commitment from folks like you, we will not charge your credit card. Can you catch the vision? Find out more in the FAQ at the bottom.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
We will keep you updated on all the news of this exciting new tool in the fight for your family.
You voted and we’re going to send you the official AFN bumper sticker so you can show the world that you have taken a stand.
We will keep you updated on all the news of this exciting new tool in the fight for your family.
The American Family Network is brought to you by experienced Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs who are Christ followers. Our team members have multiple patents, and a lot of “firsts” in the technology spaces. Their team transmitted the first ever digital video over fiber in the 80’s, architected the first ever MPEG 2 Layer 2 audio chip and designed the first player for compressed digital audio (later MP3). In the 90’s we designed the very first MPEG Encoder systems and helped design the first MPEG Players for Samsung and Panasonic (even before DVDs). We also designed and installed the first ever transmission of video over phone networks (MPEG over DS2/DS3 as well as MPEG over ATM over DSL). Most recently our team was responsible for releasing Dolby Vision, and enabled the release of the first HDR (High Dynamic Range) Content. We also designed the very first Quantum Dot Display monitor for Dolby Laboratories and personally designed every single one of the Dolby HDR monitors.
We have now partnered with many of the reputable ministry partners that you are familiar with, like the American Family Association AFA, American Family Radio, Josh McDowell Ministries, Living Waters/Ray Comfort, Southern Evangelical Seminary, The Frederick Douglass Association but just as importantly we’ve partnered with many moral entertainment content providers. All to achieve the goal of offering lots of family friendly content inexpensively in one simple and easy location. Our goal is to provide quality family friendly Entertainment, Information and Education. Yet we believe that not every thing you watch needs to be a sermon. Often you just want to laugh and be entertained or be informed without compromising your morals or accepting poor quality content. Content should be moral, but it needn’t always be about teaching a moral.
But most of all, the experience must be quality. Quality story writing, quality production, quality transmission and yes, quality playback.
AFN will be an alternative to current Cable TV & Satellite TV providers. With over 200 family-friendly television channels aligned with Christian values. We will deliver news, sports and entertainment that will rival current networks, but without depravity. Ad supported channel providers will compete for your viewership ensuring quality and variety.
You download our app to your smart TV or handheld device or a Apple TV/Roku/Chromecast etc. Once you launch the app, it will look and feel just like cable TV. Your up and down channel buttons will allow you to surf through the channels and find content that is interesting to you. If you find a show that you like, you can even hit the “Start from Beginning” button to watch the show in entirety.
You can keep your current Cable or Satellite provider, but our goal is to eventually provide you with enough Family Friendly Entertainment to replace them completely if you wish.
Wholesome Entertainment for the Whole Family
What is crowd funding?
Crowd funded companies (also called crowd sourced companies) are very common these days, as it takes good ideas out of the realm of smoky banker and venture capitalist meetings who think they know better than the public and puts it in the hands of those who actually want the product, by asking them to donate or pay ahead of the actual service. This prepayment is then used in the case of manufacturing to create the tooling and pay the upfront production costs. In the case of a service like ours, it’s used to set up the channels and prepare the software etc. In our case what that means is that we ask our potential subscribers i.e. individuals, parents & grandparents who realize the need for a Godly yet quality alternative to TV, to join us in funding this vision slightly ahead of when they’ll get the actual service.
So what we are asking you to do is to pre-subscribe or donate. We will use these subscriptions and donations to launch the network in 4 months of receiving the minimum funding, while reserving an ample buffer to ensure service for the full term that we’ve promised to you while growing the network.
What does the service cost?
Once we launch the subscription rate will be just $14.95 a month (or less if you subscribe for a year or more). This will be the fixed rate as we continue to grow to 200 channels.
In addition, once you sign up, you’ll automatically become an affiliate and we’ll send you a sign-up link. Send it to all your friends. If you are an organization send it to everyone on your mailing list. Whenever anyone signs up with your link, you get 50c a month from us for each person as long as they remain subscribers. Sign up 1000 friends, donors, Facebook followers and get a $500 check every month from us with no maximums. You also get minor residual affiliate payments from those who subscribe using your friends links. So encourage your friends to send it to their friends too.
Please note too, that your donation and a major portion of your monthly subscriptions are Tax Deductible (barring any major changes in the Tax law).
What if you don’t meet your goal?
If we don’t meet our goal we will not charge your credit card. You credit card will only be charged once we meet our funding goal.
Could the whole service fail after you reach the full funding due to technical issues?
Unlike most Kickstarter/Crowdsourcing deals, there are no technical or manufacturing barriers to the AFN service deploying. If we meet our funding requirements, the network will launch. We already have much of it up and running all we need the crowd-sourcing for now is to finalize the User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX) and to build the AFN Content Portal and the AFN Ad Portal.
What channels will be on AFN when it starts?
Will you have all 200 channels?
Not right away, remember we are trying to create and grow something that can compete with the Billions of Dollars of Fake News, Moral Depravity, and Socialistic brainwashing. Remember when HNN (Headline News Network) started they were just the same 4 minutes of TV reported looped over and over again (actually come to think of it, HNN is still just that). Remember when ESPN started it was just a VHS camcorder (remember those) at the side of a Lacrosse Game, some folks in a dimly lit studio talking about sports. Well, we won’t be that bad. All our studios are high quality and all our cameras are HD or 4K.
There will be about 21 channels to start with (this number is growing).
The backbone of AFN will be the news and opinion channels. A 24 hour headline news network. A nightly newscast that deals with the news of the day. A Fox news type Opinion Channel. Nightly entertainment talk shows. Multiple channels of University and other educational content. Multiple Channels of Christian Music Video content (e.g. Praise and Worship, Country Music, International, the Church Choir Channel etc.). Home School channels. The Urban Family Channel. The Frederick Douglass Association Channel. The old-time Movie channel. The old-time Sitcom channel. The Indie Movie Channel. The PH45E TV Channel. The Josh McDowell Channel. The Southern Evangelical Seminary Channel. The Ray Comfort/Living Water’s Channel. The Reasons to Believe Channel. The Real TV channel and many others.
As you can imagine to enable this sea-change in American culture, it’s going to take us all some time to get there. We have to grow the market for good content. The good news is there are hours and hours of good content already out there, but it’s not enough for us. While AFN is adding subscribers, we are also creating a new ecosystem for 1000’s of content producers. That’s why we need you to partner with us to make this happen. We need to enable independent production of moral content.
How will I regulate the number of hours of TV my kids can watch?
Every child can be allocated a pin. Kids will have to remember and enter their 6 digit pin to watch these shows. Using the AFN dashboard, at anytime you as a parent can view what shows they watched, when they watched and how long they watched. You can also set maximum time limits. E.g. Pin 123456 can only watch 30 mins a day, for a maximum 2 hours a week. Pin 654321 can only watch only 1 hour on Sat and Sundays. Etc. or Pin 1111111 can only watch 2 hours a week (if they use up their hours the first day, they then have to wait a week before they can watch any more TV)
You will be able to set a default pin if there are no kids in your home
Is this a Netflix or Amazon Prime or Hulu replacement?
No. We are not talking about just a NetFlix, or CRNTV, Hulu or, Amazon Prime etc. we are talking about 200 independent channels of Netflixes, ABC, NBC, CNN, Fox, Hulu etc. This means you’d turn on your TV and see 200 independent channels, each competing for your viewership. You’d flip through them just like you do now on your Cable or Satellite box. Except it’ll be profamily and won’t attack Judeo Christian moral values. We are talking about giving you an option to eventually replace your ENTIRE Cable or Dish TV services.
Note, some of our Channel hosts will also to offer their content similar to Netflix (i.e. Video On Demand). In these cases you’d simply click open their offerings and it’ll look similar to Netflix where you can review and choose the movie or show you wish to watch.
This is the best of all worlds.
Will I be able to get existing channels on AFN?
If you mean “can you get existing shows on AFN?” If we are able to license any existing shows that meet our standards, YES, we will add those shows to the line up.
If you mean “can you get FOX News, CNN, HGTV, TLC etc?” Not on AFN, but there’s nothing to prevent you from having them as well as AFN (see the next item for more details).
But I still want Fox News or TLC or HGTV or Live TV or ABC etc.
There’s nothing to prevent you from keeping and accessing your current cable or dish services or over the air simultaneously. Since AFN will be an app on your SmartTV, or Roku or whatever, you can always switch over to those services when you want what they have. We of course intend to earn your confidence to eventually replace all your viewing, but until then we’ll enjoy the competition.
Will you have news, sports, sitcoms, cartoons?
Yes. The American Family Network is arranging to provide up to the minute 24 hour headline News as well as a National Nightly News Broadcasts dealing with the issues of the day across the nation. Eventually we will also have local County News Broadcasts. We are also encouraging other channel hosts to provide their own Broadcast News programs. Competition is good for everyone. The huge difference is that instead of a biased liberal news source, you’d get a multiple professional independent nationwide and international news sources.
You will still be able to get all your over the air channels without interruption. However, we believe it is going to be important to provide a moral “facts only news service” that is local to your county. So, AFN will be developing local AFN affiliate studios to produce high quality Local County News services around the nation. That is, news produced in your county by a local AFN affiliate with production experience who will focus on fact-based news that is exclusive to your county.
Sports: We plan to bring that in as soon as we can arrange it. The more subscribers we have the more leverage we will have for sports channels and content. Just like ESPN started slow, we may have to start there. But we intent to have lots of Sports Nes and Sports Talk shows as soon as we can arrange them… Lots.
Sitcoms: We will start slowly with existing old time sitcoms and will grow the number of sitcoms and new content is originated and created. But rather than sitcoms that destroy the family structure and violate God’s laws, the shows we will be funding and looking for will be high quality, non-campy Godly shows based in reality.
Cartoons: As we grow, your kids will find healthy cartoons and educational programs including a few special productions. Note, all shows will be critically evaluated for production value and content value before being allowed to be broadcast. It is not our intention to allow any low quality, low production value, low interest, “community channel” type programming. In addition, quality will determine the number of viewers a channel will gain, this in turn will impact how long they last on AFN.
Is this going to be 200 channels of Sermons asking for donations?
Horrors…not at all! The first word in our motto is Entertainment. Our motto is Entertainment, Information, Education. Church Channels will be few and far between. We think your best source for sermons is your local Church body and your own pastor, not us. We are focused on Entertainment first, then Information and Education. And if you think about it, we aren’t ever going to become a substitute for Big TV by only broadcasting sermons.
In addition, asking for donations is limited on AFN. Our plan is to have AFN mostly ad based like Cable and Satellite TV.
How about advertisements?
If we want quality content, we have to let the morally restrained free market do its work. So, each AFN channel can choose to be ad supported. You want the ads. It’s fueled the growth engine for America ever since the days of Newspapers. The major source of income for each Channel Host will be ad dollars. This way you also won’t be getting 1000’s of appeals for donations by the channel hosts, they just need you to watch those who are sponsoring their shows.
Ads will be geographically targeted based on your IP address. This also allows small Mom and Pop shops to advertise just to their local community starting at just 10c a view for a 30 second ad for as few people as they want to pay for. If you have a business and are interested in advertising with us in your local community please email us at ADsales@americanfamilynetwork.org. We want to bring TV advertising to the small business, the back bone of American liberty.
Just like the shows, the ads will be screened to ensure they meet our standards and they are selling items that are aligned with our moral values.
What are the plans for growing AFN to 200 channels?
Growth will be steady as there are 1000’s of content producers who have the skills and can produce quality shows. But these content producers till now have not had an avenue to release their content in a way that provides them with enough income to live off. We are creating an ecosystem to do this with the American Family Network Content Portal. The AFN Content Portal will allow content producers a way to connect with the 200 AFN Channel Hosts and schedule their content for broadcast without having to spend hours signing papers and negotiating contracts and ensuring their digital assets don’t become public. Once that content is uploaded, our trained screeners will screen the content and the production quality, before allowing Host Channels access to schedule them on the air.
Here’s what we are looking for in new Channels:
A “real” History Channel, that does not ignore the faith of the great men and women of the past.
Multiple talk-show channels, highlighting some of the well-known radio show hosts as well as Opinion shows. Multiple Apologetics Educational shows targeted at kids.
New kid’s shows that teach theology, apologetics and Constitutional principles in a winsome way through stories, sitcoms, comedy shows and cartoons.
AFN Original Shows.
International News targeted at various communities.
And many others. If you have the production experience and the organization behind you to be able to run a 24 Hour Channel and think you can grow the content quickly we urge you to contact us at: ChannelHosts@americanfamilynetwork.org
How do I access these 200 channels?
It would not be over the air. All you would need is a high-speed internet connection (over 3Mbs ideally, but we can work with less) and a “Smart TV.”
If you don’t have a “Smart TV”, we’ll direct you to a compatible set top box from Amazon for about $38, with directions how to plug it in and run the AFN app.
You then download the AFN app and run it on your smart TV, your smart phone, your tablets, your laptops, your desktops etc. You can watch family friendly TV anywhere in the world.
Once you run the AFN app, it opens up and it looks just like your cable box (but without trying to program your kids with immorality). You can surf channels just like in the old days. You don’t have to read all the reviews of each show before you click watch and wait minutes to see what the show is about. You can just flip around…you are free to surf again.
How many streams can our family watch at the same time?
You will be able to have 4 simultaneous streams.
Is this just free content that I could just find on the internet?
No, since this is ad supported, it makes sense that if Channel Hosts are earning ad income from viewers on AFN, they won’t want to stream it for free. Also, the new content ecosystem will reward those who create quality content with ad dollars.
What if we want to provide content for this network?
If you are an organization with quality content please fill out the form at AFNTV.net, include the type of content you have, whom you’ve produced for before and samples of your work. We have a team of very critical evaluators who will be screening content. If you pass the reviews, your name will be passed on to our Channel Hosters who will then contact you directly.
Once the AFN Content Portal is up, you can submit your content directly. Payment rates can be set to the minimum you’d want for the content to the maximum. E.g. 3c per hour of content per viewer/stream or 6c (which is what Amazon starts at) or as high as 15c or more with no maximum, paid every 60 days, and accumulated in increments of 10 minutes. The Channel Hosts fill in their range as well and our algorithm matches you to get you the best rate. Higher rates can be negotiated on the portal with each channel host.
What if my organization wants to host a channel?
Channel Hosts are carefully screened and vetted. All channel hosts have to adhere to our statement of faith and reaffirm it annually. Their production quality has to meet our exacting production and entertainment quality standards.
If you are an organization with the ability and experience to host an entire channel and produce or procure over 8 hours of original programming per weekday, please fill out the form at AFNTV.net.
If you have or currently own or manage a Network affiliate (e.g. ABC, CBS etc), believe in our statement of faith and are interested in having a Channel on AFN, contact us as well.
We will require example footage (so we can evaluate the quality of your content), and you will have to confirm that you agree with our statement of faith.
We are a big well known organization: Why didn’t you contact us before going public? We would have been interested!!!
We tried to contact as many organizations as we could. If we missed you it wasn’t because we didn’t want you, it’s probably because we didn’t have a phone number for your CEO/President. Do have him/her send us an email at: ChannelHosts@americanfamilynetwork.org
How do we advertise on AFN? How expensive will it be?
A few months before going live, the AFN Ad Portal will be up. While some features will be rolled out gradually, eventually on this portal you’ll be able to
So, if you are a one man plumbing shop in a small suburb or a Mom and Pop Restaurant in the city, you can spend a few dollars to advertise to only those folks watching AFN in your zip-code and see how it works. Then as you get the results you want, you can grow your ad budget and your business.
If you would like to be alerted when our Ad Portal goes live please email us at AdPortal@americanfamilynetwork.org
Is this only for Christians?
No, while there will be explicit Christian content (like apologetics), most of the entertainment content will be of interest to any family with kids who crave a safe place for moral entertainment. Of course we shouldn’t forget Doctor’s offices, Hotel Lobbies etc.
Can anyone even compete with Big Entertainment?
If we work together, to grow our subscribers, it will grow the ad market (the folks who will effectively pay for good shows to be produced), that will grow the content providers (the folks who produce those quality shows), which will grow the channel hosts (the folks who run the 200 channels), and at some point soon, we can provide a quality and moral alternative to every entertainment, education and information (news) outlet. And within a few years we can replace Satellite, Cable, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu etc. as a major influence in your children and grandchildren’s’ lives.
We aren’t saying that non-Christians can’t create moral content, or that such content does not already exist. What we are saying is that we are exposing our kids to immoral content by bringing it into our home and worse subsidizing immoral content with our dollars and viewership. We need to kickstart an ecosystem of content providers and channels who create content that is family friendly. The good news is that family friendly content is in far more demand that most of the stuff that is passed on to us as art and entertainment by Hollywood, the Media and TV.
Will you join us as we grow, will you partner with us through thick and thin as we build a network that takes back news, entertainment, education, and our kids. No more compromises.
Are you trying to create a market for sub-optimal content that isn’t able to compete with the BIG boys?
For centuries the most venerated art and music were made for the Glory of God. And now centuries later, that art and music from the past still eclipses modern art and modern music. We want to recreate that kind of climate for excellence. We will be screening much of the content, but as it grows, we will depend more and more on the crowd sourced ratings, i.e. you. Through the rating system and viewing choices, you the viewers are tasked with qualifying and elevating good art and ignoring or down voting bad.
